MEASURING GUIDE

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Take all measurements over any clothing or equipment that the user would normally wear underneath the protective garment
(e.g., belt, cell phone, pager, etc.), taking into account that
individuals may weigh more and wear more clothing during
    colder months.
  • Patterns for females are available but are seldom necessary to ensure a proper fit.
  • Non-proportional body measurements should be noted on your order.
  • Always provide height and weight measurements.
  • Ensure that there is sufficient overlap as required by NFPA 1500
(current edition). NFPA 1500 mandates that all layers shall have
at least a 2” overlap between the coat and pant when measured
in both of the following positions:

    • Standing, hands together, reaching overhead as high as possible; and
    • Standing, hands together, reaching overhead with body bent forward, to
the side, and to the back as much as possible
  • Coat lengths of 28” (optional Axis and QS-103), 30” (QS-103 and optional Axis), 32” (axis and optional QS-103), 34” (optional Axis) and 35” (Traditional and Responder) are available. Radius is avaialble in a standard 30"/36" length and optional 28"/34" and 32"/38" lengths.
  • Pant styles are waist-level (Traditional and Responder), low rise front with 3” gradual rise (Axis and Radius), 3” high back (optional QS-103) and 6” high back (QS-103 and optional Axis).
  • Appropriate coat length and pant waist style should be
determined at the time of measuring.
  • Never allow the user to take his/her own measurements.
  • Round all fractions up to the next whole number.
  • If in doubt—contact our Customer Service Department

    for assistance.
USING SIZING SUITS
Sizing Suits are available for your use and are the preferred method of obtaining the most accurate measurements;
however, properly taken tape measurements work well. Please note that Axis/Radius sizing suits should not be used for QS-103/Traditional sizing and vice versa.

Always try on the sizing coat while wearing the sizing pant to ensure a proper fit.
Belly and hip measurements should not be supplied when measurements have been verified using sizing suits.

Chest: Wearer should go through a full range of motion to make sure the shoulders and chest fit comfortably.
Sleeve: Determine sleeve length by adding or subtracting from the length of the sizing coat sleeve.
Waist: Wearer should go through a full range of motion including squatting and climbing to make sure there is
adequate room in the seat and thigh.

Inseam: Determine inseam length by adding or subtracting from the length of the sizing pant inseam.

USING TAPE MEASURE
Chest: Raise both arms 90° to the body. Position the measuring tape around the fullest part of the chest, over the shoulder blades, and under the arms. Take a deep breath, hold it, and lower arms. Record the largest measurement.
Sleeve: Raise one arm so that it is at a 90° angle to the body. Next bend your arm so that your hand is towards your chest. Measure from the spine starting just below the base of the neck, around the shoulder and elbow, to the wrist bone.
Waist: Measure at the waistline, over belt or pant waistband.
Belly: Measure around the body at the navel.
Hip: Measure around the fullest part of the hips.
Inseam: Measure from the crotch to the ankle bone, ensuring that the individual is standing up straight and the tape measure is not bunched up.
